Get Your Skin Ready For Prom

Our Esthetician students will tell you that good skin is a must for those prom pictures! But not everybody has picture-perfect skin. It can cause a little anxiety and stress when your skin acts up before the big night but we have some tips to get your skin ready for prom!

Make better food choices! It is a proven fact that junk food can cause breakouts. So before diving into that pizza or downing those bag of chips, think about your skin. Try eating more fruits and veggies. Don’t forget about the water. Water will make your skin better. If you hate plain water, try adding some fruit to it. Also, try to stay away from sugar. It can cause acne to be worse.

You should also be exfoliating at least twice a week. Aveda’s botanical kinetics exfoliator is great to use to increase cell turnover and remove skin-dulling surface cells and impurities. It is infused with mango butter and it will leave your skin silky smooth. It is also dermatologist-tested and non-acnegenic. However, if you have a lot of breakouts exfoliating can actually spread the bacteria and will make it worse. If that is the case, you should use the botanical kineticsdeep cleansing clay masque. It is for all skin types and absorbs excess oils and draws impurities from skin with a unique blend of clay.

Make sure to cleanse and moisturize twice a day, once in the AM and once in the PM. This will keep your skin free of dirt and bacteria. When you cleanse use a soft cloth and use circular motions. It is important to use lukewarm water to rinse your face. Too hot of water can actually dry out your skin. Use a moisturizer that fits your skin type.

Make sure to wax, tweeze, or thread those beautiful eyebrows at least two days before. That way any redness, bumps, or swelling have a chance to subside for the big night.

Make sure to get plenty of rest. I know that is easier said than done but it is very important to get at least 6-8 hours a night. This reduces fatigue and puffiness. Also, it will help with puffy eyes and undereye circles. Experts recommend trying to go to bed at the same time every night if possible. If you have a hard time getting to sleep, make sure not to use your phone or electronics an hour before bedtime. Turn on some soft music and read a book. Taking a bath or shower with some lavender scented body wash or bath bombs also help with sleeplessness.

If you do get a blemish, spot treat ASAP! The quicker you start treating it the better your chances of getting rid of it. Try to go makeup free until it clears up. Another suggestion is to keep the area with the blemishes well moisturized.

Your face isn’t your only skin! You should be also exfoliating from head to toe to remove any dry skin, relieve dry patches, and keep your skin glowing.  You can also use a spin brush to slough off dry skin and smooth bumps.

Get a pedicure so those feet look super soft and callous free! Make sure you get one with an exfoliation treatment and a massage. Massage will help improve blood circulation and exfoliation will remove dead, dry skin.

Last but not least, take care of those lips! Exfoliate and use a moisturizing lip balm every single night before bed. Aveda’s brand new Feed My Lips Pure Nourish lip treatment is perfect for taking care of those lips. It is a 98% naturally derived lip treatment nourishes, smooths, and moisturizes with certified organic cupuaçu fruit butter and botanical oils. It will leave your lips moisturized and kissable!
